7TH ANNUAL AWARDS GALA - THE 2011 LUNG FUNCTION
On Thursday, April 14, 2011 the Summit Foundation hosted its 7th annual Awards Gala, The Lung Function, formerly known as Heroes Among Us. This gala supports research and treatment of cystic fibrosis – a deadly lung disease. The Summit Foundation also recently launched a new brand called the CeFfort to help bring Calgarians together to conquer cystic fibrosis. Right now, more than 350 Calgarians suffer from cystic fibrosis. Affecting mainly the lungs and digestive system, CF is a fatal inherited disease that has no cure. While comprehensive treatment programs have dramatically extended the life expectancy of persons with CF who are now living into their 20s, 30s, and even 40s, CF sufferers still face shortened lives.
Event chair Nicki Perkins, an adult living with cystic fibrosis, hosted a fabulous evening at the Sheraton Eau Claire. The event featured a live and silent auction, dinner, prizes, guest speakers, keepsakes and entertainment, including a Shaw vignette featuring Jann Arden shadowing her 11-year-old nephew, Ryan, while he attended his CF clinic.
H&M GRAND OPENING - the CORE / Calgary
Wednesday night, some of Calgary’s most fashionable attended the preview event for H&M. Forming a line that stretched around the corner, hundreds of H&M devotees waited until 6 o’clock to be greeted by hors d’oeuvres, drinks and two newly renovated floors packed with H&M’s latest collections. With white washed walls, and a sleek modern interior the downtown location echoes that of the Cross Iron Mills location. White walls balanced with large squares of carpet create a clean shopping space for their women’s department, which occupies the entire first floor. This mentality is echoed within the upstairs men department, this time in sleek black and the children’s department balances white and bright green for a fun twist on their modern decor.
The new Conscious Collection was the main focus of the night, it’s available in stores starting April 14, with a new commitment to sustainable clothing, men’s women’s and children’s clothing presented in varying shades of white and cream made out of eco-friendly materials including organic cotton and recycled polyester. The women’s line features a number of dresses, tunics and shirts, featuring lots of lace and delicate details the clothing gives off a romantic bohemian style, perfect for a summer full of love. The men’s and children’s line reflect the same dreams of summer, sharp tailoring in light materials, the clothing will when layered appropriately transition well into fall.
This new collection for H&M is a further commitment to the brand fundamentals; fashion and quality at the best price. The new Core location also features more of H&M then is previous been available within other city locations, most notably Men’s Modern Classic, a line of clothing devoted entirely for the businessman in your life. As well a line called Women’s trend, something for the more fashion forward women in your life, the line features extremely high fashion pieces, ranging anywhere from harem pants, and jumpsuits, to leather and studs.
